Happy Holidays from PCF!
With the number one consumer holiday ahead of us, 2020 is poised to continue its run of record breaking ecommerce spending. The market is showing no signs of slowing down but shipping deadlines are rapidly approaching. This may ultimately lead to delays in delivery across the country but PCF is working to keep the northeast delivery pipeline flowing.
In a recent interview with Business Insider, Satish Jindel, President of the shipping data tracker ShipMatrix said “ShipMatrix estimates that 86.3 million packages will be looking for space between Thanksgiving and Christmas, but that the shipping industry’s total capacity will be 79.1 million parcels per day. That means there will be an excess of about 7 million packages per day that the industry doesn’t have the capacity to ship.” PCF is one of the few exceptions to this rule, as we currently have capacity available.
With last minute shopping and declining capacity impacting the market, here are some key dates to keep in mind:
PCF
Dec. 19: This is the last day for guaranteed delivery by Dec. 25th.
USPS
Dec. 15: This is the last day for retail ground shipping.
Dec. 18: This is the last day for first-class mail service (including greeting cards) and packages up to 15.99 ounces.
Dec. 19: This is the last day for Priority Mail service.
Dec. 23: This is the last day for Priority Mail Express service.
UPS
Dec. 15: This is the last day for UPS Ground service.
Dec. 21: This the last day for UPS 3 Day Select service.
Dec. 22: This is the last day for UPS 2nd Day Air service.
Dec. 23: This is the last day for UPS Next Day Air service.
FedEx
Dec. 15: This is the last day for FedEx Ground service.
Dec. 21: This is the last day for FedEx Express Saver and 3Day Freight services.
Dec. 22: This is the last day for FedEx 2Day A.M. and 2Day Freight services.
Dec. 23: This is the last day for FedEx 1Day Freight, Extra Hours, Standard Overnight, Priority Overnight and First Overnight services.
Dec. 25: This is the last day for FedEx SameDay, SameDay City Priority and SameDay City Direct services.
As these dates pass, the delays can be expected to continue worsening. So, we recommend you make sure to get your orders in as early as possible. PCF will continue to provide an outlet to shippers in need through the holiday season and beyond. We look forward to what 2021 has to offer and continuing our success with capacity available. From all of us at PCF, have a safe and happy holiday season!
